Accounting

This course provides an opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of double-entry bookkeeping and serves as a background for those who wish to pursue a business career in college. Students learn the basic information for keeping the financial records for a service and a merchandising business. This course can be articulated for three hours of Kirkwood credit. After learning the fundamentals, computer programs such as Quicken and QuickBooks are used to apply concepts to the 21st century business world.

 

Advanced Accounting

Students expand their knowledge of accounting principles concepts and terminology through the incorporation of partnerships, accounting for a corporation, departmentalized accounting and automated accounting. Practice sets will be utilized as well as an automated accounting system, Peachtree. Students will also be required to complete a job shadow with a professional in a chosen field of accounting.

 

 

Trimester Long Courses


Entrprenuership

The course allows juniors and seniors to develop their own business. This realistic course introduces students to all aspects of the business plan including: an Executive Summary, an Organization Plan, a Management Plan, a Marketing Plan, and Supporting Documents. The trimester is spent learning about each section of a business plan, then applying this knowledge in the computer lab to create a plan of your own. If you want to start a business, this is the class for you.

 

Marketing

Sell yourself! Whether you plan to make a career out of marketing, or not, marketing concepts are important to everyone. Marketing skills are used to promote individual assets well as business ideas in the real world. This class focuses on competition, marketing basics, the marketing mix, and international marketing. Students will even develop their own marketing plan and create several commercials

 

General Business

This course provides an introduction to the business world and an understanding of our economic environment.  Units of study include business ethics, marketing, entrepreneurship, and the globalization of business.  Students will also receive a comprehensive look at how different business structures operate within our economy

 

Personal Finance

The intent of this course is to inform students of various financial responsibilities and to provide them with the skills necessary to keep accurate financial records for their personal life. Areas of study will include, but are not limited to budgeting, savings and investments, use of credit, and insurance.

 

Computer Technology

The hands-on trimester course brings students face to face with the applications commonly used at home as well as in the office. Using Microsoft Office XP Professional, students will explore applications in word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheets, (Excel), & presentations (Power Point).

 

Advanced Computer Technology

Students take what they have learned in Computer Technology and move beyond it with advanced applications in Microsoft Office. There will be comprehensive use of Flash (animation software) and web page design.
